Meet Louisa: Up to 20 acres in northeastern Illinois

Louisa is a beginning farmer with a background in organic farming and extensive experience with fruit tree production and beekeeping. She is searching for a farmstead in the greater Chicago area to start her own diversified farm business. She’s hoping to find a partnership or purchase opportunity where she can grow fruit and vegetable crops and incorporate beekeeping and chickens. Ideally the property would include housing, water access, and a building for her future dreams of creating a community space. Louisa’s ideal acreage is ¼–20 acres in Cook, DuPage, Kankakee, Lake, McHenry, or Will counties.

Meet Sabine: ¼–2 acres in Lake or McHenry County

Sabine is currently raising her first batch of meat chickens in her Grayslake backyard. She’s starting small but has a clear dream she’s driving towards – “The long-term vision is a ‘Community Barn’ where families can lease small plots, raise livestock for food, and learn traditional animal husbandry skills through mentorship and hands-on support.” As a first step, she is seeking to lease a small plot of land (¼–2 acres) in Lake or McHenry County. Sabine is open to various arrangements, including short-term leases, lease-to-own, or partnerships with retiring farmers who want to transition their land to a caring steward.

Meet the Two Sisters Farm family: 250-500 acres in DeKalb, DuPage, or Kane County

Mike, Jen, and their two daughters are a first-generation farm family running a diversified, regenerative farm in Elburn. Their farm journey began with honeybees and later expanded into sweet corn, popcorn, and hay. They’re currently seeking Regenified certification to formalize their commitment to environmentally friendly farming practices. Mike and his family are seeking additional land to lease (250-500 acres) in DeKalb, DuPage, or Kane counties to expand their operation and potentially add sheep or cattle.
